Nalbone Family Recipes

This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Scotch Shortbreads

Preparation Time: 20 minutes
Start to Finish Time: 1 hour 5 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 1 cup butter
  • blanched almonds
  • candied cherries
  • angelica or citron

Directions

  1. Sift dry ingredients into bowl. Break butter in small pieces, and work into dry ingredients with hands until mixture is smooth and blended. Halve dough, and roll each half to form a 6-inch round, 1/2 inch thick. Put on brown paper or cookie sheet. With tines of fork, outline 6 wedges in each round. Prick wedges with fork. Decorate with almonds, bits of cherry, and angelica or citron. Bake in slow oven, 275F, for about 45 minutes. Remove to wire racks, and cool. Break apart.
