This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Ann's Butter Balls

Source: Mom's Black Book

Servings: 48
Yield: 8 dozen

Preparation Time: 10 minutes
Start to Finish Time: 30 minutes

These are good butter balls.

I would suggest, maybe using 4 teaspoons vanilla instead of 1 tablespoon, based on similar recipes found on line.

Ingredients

  • 4 1/2 cups sifted flour
  • 1 cup sifted confectioner's sugar
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 pound sweet butter

Directions

  1. Cream powdered sugar, butter and vanilla.
  2. Stir in flour. Mix until dough is smooth. Chill dough.
  3. Roll dough, a teaspoonful at a time, into balls.
  4. Bake on cookie sheet in 325 degree oven for 20 - 25 minutes.
  5. While cookies are warm, roll in powdered sugar.

Variation: Add 2 cups chopped walnuts or filberts to the liquid ingredients prior to adding the flour.
