This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Little Butter S's

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 egg yolks, well beaten
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups sifted flour (about)
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons finely minced, unblanched almonds
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar

Directions

  1. Cream butter; add 1/3 cup sugar and egg yolks; beat until light.
  2. Add milk, salt, and enough flour to make dough easy to handle.
  3. Break off small pieces of dough; roll between floured hand until about 1/2-inch thick and finger-shaped. Put on cookie sheets in shape of an S. Brush with egg white mixed with 1 tablespoon water.
  4. Mix almonds and 1 tablespoon sugar; sprinkle on S's. Bake in moderate oven, 325 degrees, for 15 minutes.
