This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

German Cake Cookies

 Although labled as cookies, this recipe only makes sense if you realize it has to be a cake.

Ingredients

  • Cake:
    • 7 egg yolks
    • 1/2 pound butter
    • 1/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons sugar
    • 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons flour
  • Frosting:
    • 7 egg whites
    • 1 pound chopped nuts
    • 1/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons sugar

Directions

  1. Beat egg yolks, butter, and sugar until fluffy.
  2. Mix in flour and bake at 400 degrees until a tester comes out clean.
  3. Beat egg whites until stiff, add nuts and sugar. Cook over low heat then remove from the stove.
  4. Place on cake and cool until done.
