This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Honey Date Bars

Start to Finish Time: 1 hour

Ingredients

  • 1 cup honey
  • 3 eggs, well beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup sifted flour (1-1/3)
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 14 1/2 ounces pitted dates, cut up
  • 1 cup chopped nuts
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar, approximate

Directions

  1. Mix honey, eggs, and vanilla; beat well. Add sifted dry ingredients, dates, and nuts.
  2. Spread in greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch pan. Bake in moderate oven, 350 degrees, for about 45 minutes.
  3. Cool in pan. Cut in 1 x 3-inch bars, and roll in sugar.
