This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Chocolate Pinwheel Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 ounce unsweetened chocolate, melted

Directions

  1. Cream butter; add sugar, vanilla, and egg; beat until light.
  2. Add sifted dry ingredients. Halve dough, and add chocolate to one half.
  3. Chill for several hours, or until firm enough to roll. Roll white dough on floured waxed paper to form a 9 x 12 inch rectangle. Roll chocolate dough to same size on waxed paper. Invert on top of white dough, and pull off paper.
  4. Press gently with rolling pin. Roll up tightly from side; wrap in paper. Chill overnight.
  5. Slice 1/8 inch thick. Bake on cookie sheets in moderate oven, 350F, for about 10 minutes.
