This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Sugared Nuts

Start to Finish Time: 45 minutes

These cinnamony nuts make a sweet gift for a favorite teacher or neighbor. You may want to make a double batch so there'll be plenty for your kitchen helpers to nibble on too.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 cup almonds
  • 1 cup pecans

Direction

  1. Preheat oven to 300F. In a mixing bowl, stir together sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt.
  2. In another bowl, gently mix egg white and water, then stir in the nuts.
  3. Pour the sugar mixture over the nuts and stir until evenly coated.
  4. Spread the nuts on a wax paper lined baking sheet. Bake for 30 minutes. Allow to cool for a few minutes before removing from the baking sheet.
