This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lard (2 cups)
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 6 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup milk, if needed

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375F.
  2. Beat lard and sugar together until light and fluffy. Mix in eggs, flour, salt, and vanilla.
  3. If dough is too hard, add up to 1/4 cup milk.
  4. Fill cookie press with dough and shape onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  5. Optionally, brush the tops of each cookie with and egg white and water mixture.
  6. Bake in 375 degree preheated oven; baking time will depend on the cookie press blade used. Cool slightly, then remove from sheet with spatula.
