This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Mary Bruno's Pizzelles

Notes: Mary Bruno of Verona, known as the Cookie Lady at the Penn Hills AARP meetings, says she's been making cookies for years for family and friends. Mary writes: "My pizzelle recipe is known as the best, and the favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter -- softened
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons anise extract -- or 1 bottle anise oil
  • 3 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder

Directions

  1. Combine first six ingredients. Add flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
  2. Heat pizzelle iron. Place about 1 teaspoon batter on each section of the pizzelle iron.
  3. Cook pizzelle for about 30 - 35 seconds, or until golden brown.

Yield: 6 Dozen
