Martha Struck's Pound Cake

One of Mom's favorites to make, one of my favorite to eat.
Ingredients
- 1 cup vegetable shortening, margarine, or butter
- 3 cups sugar
- 5 eggs, at room temperature
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon lemon extract
- 3 cups flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Directions
- Do not preheat the oven.
- Mix together the shortening, sugar, eggs, milk, and lemon extract.
- Sift together the flour and baking powder. Mix the dry ingredients into the liquid ingredients.
- Pour the mixture into a COLD tube pan, and place in a COLD oven.
- Set oven temperature to 350 degrees F and cook for 1 hour, 15 minutes.
