Nalbone Family Recipes

This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Butter Cookies

Note: The Black Book only listed ingredients and had no cookie directions.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound unsalted butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon extract
  • 1 teaspoon sour cream (original recipe stated "a little")
  • 6 egg yolks
  • 6 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 pinch salt

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add vanilla and sour cream, blend well.
  4. Add egg yolks one at a time, continue to blend.
  5. Sift together flour, baking powder and salt.
  6. Gradually add the flour mixture to the cream mixture. Mix after each addition until dough is smooth.
  7. Use a cookie press to form cookies on an ungreased cookie sheet or roll to 1/8 inch thick and cut with cookie cutters.
  8. Bake in a 400 degree oven for 5 minutes or until edges are delicately brown.
