This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Fried Twists

Delicious according to Mom.

Ingredients

  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 2/3 cups sifted flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pinch mace, or 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup confectioner's sugar

Directions

  1. Beat egg yolks until light. Add cream and sugar, and beat well.
  2. Add flour, salt, and spice.
  3. Roll small amount of dough at a time to a little less than 1/8-inch thickness. Cut in 1x3-inch strips with pastry wheel, cutting ends diagonally. Make a lengthwise slit in the center of each strip, and pull one end through.
  4. Fry in hot, deep fat (350F on a frying thermometer) for 2 minutes, or until lightly browned, turning once. Drain on paper towels.
  5. When cold, sprinkle with confectioner's sugar.
