This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Norwegian Cardamom Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom, seeds
  • 1/4 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. Sift flour; measure. Sift again with baking powder and salt.
  2. Remove shells from seeds; crush seeds.
  3. Cream butter or margarine. Gradually add sugar, working until fluffy.
  4. Beat in egg.
  5. Stir in flour mixture and cardamon seeds. Chill several hours.
  6. Start oven 375F or moderate.
  7. Divide dough in thirds, roll out one third at a time on floured board to 1/8" thickness. Cut in diamond shapes.
  8. Bake on ungreased baking sheet for 10 minutes.
  9. Decorate with confectioners' frosting and edge with chopped nuts.
