This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Russian Canes

Preparation Time: 15 minutes
Start to Finish Time: 27 minutes

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cup flour
  • 2/3 cup pecans, peanuts
  • 1 cup butter or margarine
  • 1/2 cup confectioner's sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

  1. Sift flour; measure. Chop nuts fine.
  2. Cream butter or margarine. Gradually add the sugar, continuing to work until fluffy.
  3. Add salt, vanilla and flour. Mix well. Stir in nuts.
  4. Start oven 400F or hot.
  5. Break off small pieces of dough and roll between hands into shape of candy canes.
  6. Bake on ungreased baking sheet for 10-12 minutes.
  7. While warm, roll in confectioners' sugar or cool and frost with confectioners' frosting.
