This recipe collection began as a way to back up my mother's recipe collection that she has collected in a black binder since the 1950's. Maggie and I are also adding recipes that we want to keep track of, so this will become our family go to location for storing and finding our recipes

Maggie's Own Spiced Nuts

Yield: 3 cups

Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon chipotle pepper
  • 1 pinch dry mustard
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 pound peanuts, dry-roasted
  • 2 egg whites
  • 2 tablespoons water

Directions

  1. Preheat over to 250.
  2. Combine all dry ingredients in a larg bowl.
  3. Beat together the egg whites and water until foamy.
  4. Add nuts to the froth and stir to cover all of the nuts.
  5. Spoon the nuts into the spice mixture, cover and shake to coat all of the nuts.
  6. Spread onto a baking pan and bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
  7. If making more than one batch, alternate the pans between the top and bottom racks each time you take them out to stir.
